Their priorities

Issues Mary is raising that aren't a shared debate across the field.

  • Climate Resiliency

Mary Jobaida supports funding long-delayed upgrades to NYC’s sewer system, funding climate-resiliency infrastructure including rain gardens and green roofs, and pressuring NYSERDA to permit Rise Light & Power’s alternative energy conversion to shut down polluting stacks at the Ravenswood Generating Station.

  • Universal Child Care and Education

Mary Jobaida supports fully funding quality child care and education from 3K to college, extending paid parental leave to 2 years, and providing more skills-based training in trade and vocational schools. She also supports free quality education through college (Free SUNY and CUNY).

  • Ending Second-Class Citizenship for NYCHA Tenants

Mary Jobaida supports fully funding NYCHA, reforming its work order system so tickets are not closed without proper and timely resolution, and allowing rent withholding if basic needs aren’t met, as is the right for NYC private renters. She also advocates for affordable housing tenants to receive all protections given to private renters.

  • New York Health Act / Universal Healthcare

Mary Jobaida supports the New York Health Act (Medicare for All at the state level), which she says would save NYS billions per year, cover everyone, and allow drug price negotiations. She advocates putting the NY Health Act up for a vote, protecting home-care workers and disabled community members by recruiting, training and paying workers adequately, protecting access to gender-affirming healthcare for Trans New Yorkers, and fully funding community healthcare centers for preventative services.

  • Decriminalizing Poverty / Public Safety

Mary Jobaida supports expanding youth mental health support, employment and entertainment/enrichment services, expressly transferring funding and authority from police to community mental health response, and funding restorative justice and diversion programs.
