Research, sources & coverage

By The People brings election research together to help you make your own decisions. Our guides provide context and comparisons; they do not tell you who to vote for.

Follow the evidence

Open the Sources section on a researched race page and follow the links alongside specific claims. A campaign statement describes what a candidate says; a vote, public record, or reported outcome describes a different kind of evidence. Read the source in context before treating a stated intention as an action or result.

A source list supports the guide as a whole. It does not mean every source supports every sentence. Use the citations attached to the claim you are checking.

Coverage and missing information

Research coverage varies by race, candidate, and topic. A roster page may be available before a researched guide. A missing position or record means the page does not supply that information; it is not evidence that a candidate has no position, no experience, or no activity.

Comparisons and selected records are not exhaustive accounts of a candidate's career. Keep attribution and stated limitations when quoting or summarizing a guide.

Research dates are a snapshot

Where shown, the research date identifies the guide's research snapshot. It is not a promise that every linked source was updated on that date or that the guide reflects later developments. We do not publish a guaranteed update interval. Information may be incomplete or out of date.

Before relying on any guide to vote, confirm ballot eligibility, election dates, registration deadlines, and voting arrangements with official election authorities, such as your county Board of Elections.

Report a correction or gap

Send the BTP page URL, the claim or missing information, and a supporting source to support@bythepeople.co. This helps us locate and investigate the issue.
