DiNapoli created a Fiscal Stress Monitoring System to inform taxpayers about the state of their local government finances, and increased school accountability by auditing every school district and BOCES in New York State on a rotating cycle. He also uncovered widespread abuse of special education funds by private contractors.

Comptroller DiNapoli has taken bold steps to transition the state pension fund's investments to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, protecting taxpayers and retirees from the fiscal impacts of climate change. He also uses shareholder influence to press companies to address climate change.

DiNapoli developed an Emerging Managers program to break down barriers that limit career options for women and people of color in the financial sector, and uses shareholder influence to increase diversity on corporate boards.

DiNapoli has exposed corruption, fraud, and theft of taxpayer dollars, resulting in nearly 300 arrests and millions recovered. He has also toughened penalties for officials who abuse the public trust and public funds.
