Issues

Housing, foreclosure and tenant protections

The question is how far the state should go in protecting homeowners and renters from foreclosure, deed theft and eviction, and in paying for home repairs, rent relief and new affordable units.

Supports the Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act to allow housing on religious land, and tax credits and abatements to build affordable rentals and co-ops. Proposes an emergency fund for homeowners' repairs and mortgage payments, foreclosure mediation, closing deed-theft loopholes with a post-sale right of redemption, and changing how Area Median Income is calculated.

Schools and early childhood education

The question is how the state should expand early childhood programs, college aid and resources for students and teachers, and what role public charter schools should play alongside traditional public schools.

Supports expanding 3-K for all statewide and the 2-K for all pilot, expanding the Excelsior program so more students can attend and graduate from college, and making sure New York City complies with reduced class sizes. Supports letting parents choose between traditional public schools and public charter schools.
