Issues

Artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency rules

State law sets how artificial intelligence and digital currencies are regulated, from warning and disclosure rules to whether AI may be used in public services or in place of workers.

Opposes using artificial intelligence for public-facing services, emergency services or to replace workers. Citing his union membership, says AI has taken union jobs, other well-paying jobs and entry-level work that would have benefited the community.

Consumer protection, small business and the state budget

The Legislature writes the state's consumer-protection and business rules and passes the budget bills that carry out the state fiscal plan. At issue is how far those rules should go and who bears their costs.

Supports small business rent stabilization to counter private equity's takeover of local stores and service providers, such as funeral homes and medical practices, and says doing so would also help fight high health care costs.

School and public college funding

State money for schools and public colleges is set in the state budget, as in the 2024-25 education, labor, housing and family assistance budget signed in April 2024. At issue is how much to spend on schools and on CUNY and SUNY, including tuition, and how much say communities have over their children's schools.

Supports fully funding CUNY and SUNY colleges and bringing back free tuition, saying no one should have to choose between a quality education and debt. Opposes mayoral control of children's education, favoring more community input and control.
