Issues

Bail, crime and public safety

State law sets the rules for bail and the sentences crimes carry, so whether to revise New York's current bail laws, and how much discretion judges have when setting bail, is decided in Albany by the Legislature and the governor.

Opposes the state's bail reform laws and wants judges to have more discretion in setting bail. Would prioritize cracking down on retail theft and illegal cannabis shops, supports higher penalties for drivers with ghost plates, loud mufflers or reckless driving, and backs gun safety laws, including fully funding red flag laws.

Taxes, utility bills and the cost of living

The Legislature writes the state's tax rules, credits and rebates and can limit the fees utilities charge customers, so it shapes the household costs homeowners, renters and retirees in the district pay.

Wants to cut taxes for working- and middle-class families, give rebates to seniors on fixed incomes, and introduce legislation to reform the property tax system for southern Brooklyn homeowners and lower their rates. Wants lower residential customer bills and opposes special deals for large corporate AI data centers; also backs universal free childcare and support for small business startups.

Subways, buses and the MTA

How much say New York City has over its subways and buses, whether tolls collected on city bridges go to city transit, how the MTA board is set up, and who patrols transit are questions state lawmakers decide.

Wants more control over New York City's mass transit and emergency funding for infrastructure upgrades. Opposes subsidizing Long Island and Westchester and wants tolls collected on New York City bridges to go to city transit.
