Issues
Cost of living, taxes and the state budget
The Legislature passes the state budget each spring, including aid to local governments and the bills that carry out the fiscal plan, and it sets state tax credits; the 2026-27 budget bill became law in May 2026. Which costs the state helps families and businesses with is decided in those votes.
Wants to fund universal child care and expand access to fresh, affordable food as part of lowering the cost of living. Also wants to secure state funding to revitalize the district's commercial corridors and to pass legislation that bolsters small businesses.
Housing questions here run through both city and state government: the City of Yes zoning overhaul was a local measure, while programs such as foreclosure prevention and aid to first-time homebuyers depend on state law and state funding.
Strongly opposed City of Yes, the overhaul of local zoning rules.
State law sets criminal penalties, custody rules and who may serve on juries, and state money funds prevention and crisis programs; a 2024 bill ending the lifetime jury-duty ban for people convicted of felonies passed both houses and was vetoed by the governor.
Wants to prevent gun violence by funding prevention programs, expanding youth jobs programs, and strengthening mental health and crisis response services.
